A kiwi traveller to Thailand thought he had comprehensive travel insurance now faces paying $16000 just to get out of hospital following a moped crash, suffering from a serious injuries the Thai hospital has posted armed guards and asked his family to pay before he receives further vital surgery, the bill is likely be $45,000 before he is stable enough to return home.

The victim paid for a policy with travel insurer Covermore but has since been advised it did not extend to riding scooters or mopeds
