Insurer urges review of bushfire levy

House insurance quotesCGU InsuranceIn a recent submission to the Victorian Bushfire Royal Commission insurer CGU said the current fire brigade funding model had failed to keep pace with growth in demand for fire fighting services, presently a levy on insurance premiums pays for three-quarters of the annual Victorian fire brigades, and next year the levy will increase from 20 to 21 percent for metropolitan homes and from 24 to 26 per cent for rural homes.

The recent fires in Victoria resulted in 10,000 claims related to the bush-fires.
