Insurance personalities John Richardson and Ian Brown were honoured at the May 2011 AGM of the Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance (ANZIIF) for the generous contributions they made during their years of service on the ANZIIF Board. ANZIFF CEO Joan Fitzpatrick said it had been a privilege to have the direction and leadership of “two such well-respected and influential industry professionals to guide the Board and the organisation over the past decade.”
Mr Richardson retired as an employee after 34 years with Marsh Pty Ltd and its predecessor companies on 30 June 2007. He is now engaged with Marsh as a Senior Corporate Advisor – Pacific Region. Mr Richardson was also awarded Honorary Life Membership of the Institute at the AGM for his contribution to the organisation including his tenure as President of ANZIIF in 2002 and 2007-08.
Over the course of his career, he has held numerous senior positions within the company including former Chairman – Pacific Region of Marsh. In addition, Mr Richardson was Chairman of Guy Carpenter & Company Limited, Australia, and a Managing Director of Marsh Inc. New York, part of the MMC Group of Companies. He was also Chairman of Marsh New Zealand, Marsh Fiji, and was a director of Marsh Papua New Guinea.
Mr Brown, an Honorary Life Member since 2010, is the Past President (2005-2007) of the Institute and has been a Director since 2002. Mr Brown retired from Executive duties but remains as an Independent Director on several Boards after 40 years as a Senior Insurance Executive and former CEO of Insurance Companies in New Zealand and Australia. Mr Brown is also the Former President of the Australian Institute of Management WA, Chairman of the China Automobile Association Beijing, Director of Safety Insurance Public Company Bangkok, Chairman of IAGRE Labuan, Director of Insurance Australia Group Reinsurance, Director IAG International Ltd, and Director of Proclaim Management Systems Melbourne.
