Insurance giant QBE insurance has announced changes in its executive structure which will be immediately put into effect.
The change in the structure of the company’s Group Executives has been sparked by retirement of CEO Frank O’Halloran effective mid August 2012.
The members of the Group Executive team are as follows:
• Steven Burns, Chief Executive Officer European Operations
• Neil Drabsch, Group Chief Financial Officer
• Colin Fagen, Chief Executive Officer Australian & New Zealand Operations
• John Rumpler, President and Chief Executive Officer North America Operations
• Jenni Smith, Group Executive Officer People and Communications
• Jose Sojo, Chief Executive Officer Latin America Operations
• George Thwaites, Group Chief Risk Officer
The transition of leadership will see all of the above executives except Mr O’Halloran report to the newly appointed CEO John Neal.
The realignment of the Group structure has forced other changes within some of the roles and responsibilities in other divisions and operations yet Frank O’Halloran is supportive saying “The changes are an important step in our leadership transition. They put in place the team that will work with John Neal to lead the business into the future. I look forward to continuing to mentor John and the team over the next three and a half months.”

More than 75 per cent of South Australian families who drive rely heavily on their cars. Yet, surprisingly, only 25 per cent have insurance cover with car hire. This is according to a recent SGIC survey of SA families undertaken by Pure Profile Research in March 2011.
Insurance provider SGIC offers Home Insurance, Car Insurance, Motorcycle Insurance, Travel Insurance, Business Insurance, Boat Insurance, Health Insurance and Caravan Insurance in South Australia.
SGIC Car Insurance spokesperson Mariana Cidade said, “Our survey showed that 63% of families don’t know what they’d do without their cars with a further 13% saying they would borrow someone’s car or a partner’s to get by. Every day activities essential to running the household would be impacted by the loss of a car, with 97% using the car for grocery shopping, 87% for visiting relatives and 85% for taking kids to school or childcare.”
“The loss of a car may also impact the household’s income earning capability,” Cidade added, “with more than half of families using the car to drive to work. It was concerning to see that 75% of families did not know if they would be provided with a hire car or did not have hire car cover with their policies.”
SGIC Car Insurance recommends car-reliant families add the hire car option to their Comprehensive Car insurance, or take out Comprehensive Plus Car insurance. Comprehensive Plus Car Insurance offers SGIC’s highest available level of car insurance cover, including unlimited car hire until customers are back on the road and taxi benefits are a standard feature. When making decisions about the product you should consider the Product Disclosure Statement available from SGIC.

A recently completed joint Deloitte JP Morgan survey of the general insurance industry found insurance premiums for consumers by 8 per cent and Business Insurance premiums by 4 per cent.
In Personal Insurance (Car Insurance, House Insurance, Boat Insurance) the major share of the industry is shared by Allianz, Suncorp Insurance (who’s brands include AAMI, GIO, VERO) and Insurance Group Australia Ltd (who’s brands include NRMA, SGIO), the premium increases for House Insurance averaged at 10 per cent. The industry saw niche insurers Virgin Money, Progressive, Budget Direct and Real Insurance gaining market share.
Business Insurance was more exposed to overseas competition and the survey found for businesses, brand was a secondary consideration.
