Lumley Insurance has today announced plans to strengthen their offering of
insurance products and risk management services to leading ASX-listed, private and Government organisations. A new “Corporate Solutions” business unit will be established to help
general insurance brokers meet the specialised needs of Australia’s large corporations.
Lumley Insurance plans to launch the new services in the second quarter of 2010.
Lumley Insurance is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Wesfarmers group, one of the largest listed companies in Australia with revenues over $50 billion and a market capitalisation around $30 billion. Lumley Insurance has an S&P A- credit rating and has operated in Australia for over 60 years. The Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) has banned Joshua David Fuoco of Prahran in Victoria from providing financial services for five years.
This follows an investigation into the Dollarforce Group of companies, in particular Elite Equities Limited (Elite) and Mr Fuoco. It shows Joshua David Fuoco was an Authorised Representative of Elite, a Financial Planning business associated with the Dollarforce Group between 23 February 2005 and 11 November 2008.

The Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) has investigated and charged the directors of Opes Prime Stockbroking Ltd (OPSL), which includes Lirim (Laurie) Emini, Julian Smith and Anthony Blumberg, with offences regarding their duties as directors.
OPSL was placed in administration in March 2008 and receivers and managers were appointed. When Opes Prime collapsed, it had over 650 active client accounts and creditors were owed approximately $630 million.
Mr Smith of Wentworth Falls, NSW, was arrested on Friday 8 January and appeared in the Downing Centre Local Court, Sydney. Mr Blumberg of Cheltenham, Victoria, was arrested on 11 January 2010 and appeared in the Melbourne Magistrates Court.
They were granted conditional bail to appear in the Melbourne Magistrates Court on 29 January 2010. They had to surrender their passports, were not allowed to apply for further passports and were not allowed at any international departure point. Mr Emini of Templestowe, Victoria, has been charged on summons to appear in the Melbourne Magistrates Court on the same day.

General Insurers paid an astounding $326 million on more than 10,000 claims for Professional Indemnity (PI) and Public and Product Liability (PL) Insurance during 2008. About 80 per cent of claims reported and payments made were for Public and Product Liability business, while the remaining 20 per cent were for professional indemnity business.
These were some of the figures relating to insurance claims data for state and territory insurers released for the first time at the end of last year in a report by The Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA).

The Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance (the Institute) has announced its Board of Directors for 2010. The Board includes two new directors, Jonathon Fox from Elders Insurance and Karl Armstrong of NZI.
Mr Fox joins the Board in his capacity as the new President of the Institute Presidents’ Council and Mr Armstrong joins in his capacity as the New Zealand President on the Board.
Institute President and Chairman of the Board, Mr Duncan West believes that the combination of strong industry experience and knowledge of all the directors will allow the Institute to continue to deliver award-winning services in education, consulting, membership and community programs, as well as increase the recognition of professional standards within the insurance industry.
