The Insurance Council of Australia’s report released at the end of 2009, indicates that the cost of public liability insurance premiums have dropped 27% in the five years to 2008 while the number of policies written has increased by more than 20%.
Across all the Australian states, public liability insurance premiums fell from an average of $1,032 in 2003 to $752 in 2008 which is a decline of 27 per cent.
Overall the decrease in public liability insurance premium costs mirrored the increase in the number of policies written: just as the number of policies written recorded their largest increases in 2003 and 2004, average premiums recorded their largest falls in the 2003 and 2004 period with the rate of decline slowing over subsequent years.
The Industry in Focus data has been sourced from the National Claims and Policy Database (NCPD) and collected by the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA) over five years.

General Insurers paid an astounding $326 million on more than 10,000 claims for Professional Indemnity (PI) and Public and Product Liability (PL) Insurance during 2008. About 80 per cent of claims reported and payments made were for Public and Product Liability business, while the remaining 20 per cent were for professional indemnity business.
These were some of the figures relating to insurance claims data for state and territory insurers released for the first time at the end of last year in a report by The Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA).

Insurance giant QBE was recognised as General Insurer of the year at the 2009 National Insurance Brokers Association (NIBA) Convention for the eighth year in a row.
QBE personal lines include boat insurance, car insurance, caravan insurance, CTP insurance, home insurance, landlords insurance and motorcycle insurance.
Their business insurance lines include farm insurance and public liability insurance.
The two other finalists were Allianz Australia Insurance and Zurich Financial Services Australia

The Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA) has released details of public liability insurance, product liability insurance and professional indemnity insurance claims from the National Claims and Policies Database.
Some of the details in the release have seen average public liability insurance premiums decrease by 27 per cent, and it has also seen a decrease in professional indemnity insurance premiums in all states and territories except the ACT.
There was a total of 82,000 public liability insurance and professional indemnity insurance claims and payments of $1.2 billion were made
